Born in Austria, I grew up in the United States, where I graduated from high school. After two years of studies at the University of Graz, Austria, I returned to the U.S., where I graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a B.A. in French (cum laude) and an M.A. in German (summa cum laude).

After graduate school, I returned to Austria where I worked for 16 years as a translator for a large company and later freelanced as a translator and writer (8 historical novels and several articles on Austrian and French history published).

In 1995, I returned to the United States and continued to write and freelance as a translator, editor, and writer. I currently reside in Seattle, WA.

While my first language was Russian, since early childhood, English and German have been my languages of habitual use.
